TWO PORTRAITS:

(i) BY ALVIN LANGDON COBURN (1882-1966), photogravure print, proof before letters (no printed plate number or facsimile signature), head and shoulders, leaning on his left hand looking into the camera, 'H.G. Wells' written in pencil on the mount by Coburn, tipped onto a mount different from the printed version (12½ x 9½ in), extremely fine, size of image 91/2 x 71/2 in (24.2 x 19.1 cm),taken for 'Men of Mark', Sandgate, 2 November 1905.

(ii) BY EDMUND SULLIVAN (1869-1933), pencil drawing, three-quarter length, depicting Wells with the artist, by whom it is signed and inscribed: 'Wells & Sullivan at the Aquarium at the Zoo Sat. April 11 - 1931 - EJS', 9 x 71/2 in (22.8 x 19.1 cm).
