Four West Australia Aboriginal implements
Including two message sticks, the cigar-shaped implements carved with zigzag incisions, rows of dots and small track marks, rubbed with ochre pigments; along with two bull roarers, from the Balgo Hills area, one elliptical, the other round at the bottom and tapered at the tip, each incised in secret representational patterns consisting of concentric circles, linear pathways or parallel grooves and other elements, one rubbed with ochre pigment, each fastened to a braided human hair cord.

  • Message sticks served as passports for Aboriginal people passing through the territory of another group. The bull roarers were used to warn off the uninitiated (women and children), and evil spirits at Men's Business Ceremonies.
