First volume in contemporary crimson morocco-backed original crimson cloth, decorated in blind and lettered in gilt, second volume in original crimson cloth, decorated in blind and lettered in gilt. First volume with faintest occasional foxing, rear hinge cracked, some light rubbing to covers and to spine, else excellent, second volume with faintest occasional foxing, joints partially cracked, light shelfwear, else excellent.
First editions in French. The first volume is signed and inscribed by Dore on the front flyleaf: "Madame E. Manuel / souvenir de mon devoue / G. Dore." Dore's illustrations for Dante's Divinia Commedia are considered to be among his finest and presentation copies are rarely, if ever seen.
