Of the Citie of God [London:] Geroge Eld, 1610. [20], 921, [11] pp. Engraved emblem on title page, engraved initials and head- and tail-pieces. Folio. Contemporary calf. Lacking final blank, light age toning throughout, first leaves creased, boards detache and very worn, spine chipped anc cracked.

First English edition. The seminal English translation until the 19th century. The dedication states that the translator John Healey as having recently sailed to Virginia, although this is taken as an inference of his recent death. Healey is also taken to have borrowed phrases from Polonius' speech in Hamlet II, 2, for parts of Bk. 12, chapter 7, which he may have recently seen in performance.
