    Richard Williams was commisioned 2nd Lieutenant in the Royal Welch Fusiliers on 17th August 1768 and promoted to Lieutenant on 13th May 1773. He was on a tour of Continental Europe when the regiment sailed for New York, Williams joined them in Boston, landin on 12th June 1775. He was not engaged at the Battle of Bunker Hill, 17th June 1775, though his journal 'Discord and Civil Wars' is a useful eyewitnes account of the events around him at that time.
