Footnotes

  • Rolex produced two different models of moonphase wristwatches, the reference 8171 and 6062. The reference 8171 has a snap on back, while the reference 6062 is waterproof, and has a screw down crown and back; for an example of a reference 6062 see lot 169 in this auction.

The reference 8171 was made in a very small series between 1949 and 1952 mainly in yellow gold and examples in stainless steel are very rare.

This watch was purchased in Zurich in 1952 by the present owner and is in original and outstanding condition.
