Cookery, medical and household recipe book, containing a large quantity of cookery recipes (making chocolate, “Marmalett”, “Sossanges”, etc.), medical recipes (for example “A Puppy Water to cleare the Skin: Take 3 Quarts of the Graves of Whitewine and 2 Puppies before they cann see, chopp of their heads & hang them up by the heels to bleed; fley them and ripp up their Bellies, cutt of their feet, cast away all within them, and cutt them a Sunder downe the Back…keep it to wash your Skinn as your other, it cleares either hands or Face, Probatum est (it is proved)…”, plus cures for the plague, mad dog bites, etc) and general household recipes (getting “Inkespotts out of Linnen”, “Mr Jemmals best way of making Inke”, etc), several of the recipes bearing attributions and notes on their effectiveness, kept mostly in one fine flourished hand, with green and red ruling, from p.236 taken up in another contemporary hand, with several later hands thereafter (up until c.1800); armorial bookplate of Richard Jenkins of Shropshire (c.1740) and label of James Henry Watson approximately 250 pages, contemporary reversed calf, spine restored, light browing and minor wear, but overall in fine condition, folio, early to mid eighteenth century
