Rayonist Composition oil on canvas 61 x 50.8 cm (24 x 20 in.)
The present work is similar in style to a series of late abstract works painted by the artist from the 1930s to the 1950s. Some of these were executed on the theme of electricity whilst others represented abstract explorations of floral themes. Certain passages of this work, as in other of these later paintings, make reference to the Rayist style of painting which Goncharova and Larionov (her life-long partner) had devised in Moscow in 1912.
Abstract Composition is to be included in the forthcoming catalogue raisonee of the artist and is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Dr Anthony Parton.
