Footnotes

  • Five years after the death of Robert Wallace Martin in 1923, his son, Clement Martin, entered into partnership with H Butterfield and, for some years, produced pieces based on original models and unglazed and unfired pieces left over from the original firm. These pieces tend to lack some of the glazing effects so successfully developed by Walter Martin. However, the current piece displays all the mischievous quirkiness of the earlier models.
