A rare Meissen porcelain cup, cover and stand
circa 1725
decorated by J. G. Melhorn, the cup with angular handles, the cover with a delicate twig knop, finely painted with European river scenes all including figures in the foreground, the distant buildings highlighted against an evening sky, all within cartouches framed by Böttger lustre panels, gilt laub und bandelwerk and iron red foliate scrolls, the rims with further gilt laub und bandelwerk, the underside of the saucer with concentric red lines, diam. of saucer 17cm, gilder's marks (some wear to gilding and enamels) (3)
