A Commonwealth silver two-handled porringer with a Charles II cover,
the porringer fully marked, maker's mark GS with crozier between, possibly by Gilbert Shepherd, London 1659, see Jackson's page 123 last entry for mark, the cover maker's mark H in a shield-shaped punch, London 1663, no town mark, see Jackson's page 126, eightieth entry for mark,
the two-handled cup embossed and chased to one side with tulips centred by a standing dog and begging bear, the opposite side with floral decoration repeated centred by a monkey astride a lion, the base chased with a stylised flower in punch-bead surround and applied with rope-twist band, caryatid scroll handles, the cover chased with various flowers and cast finial modelled as grotesque masks height 16.5cm, weight 23.5oz.
