Lot Details
A Scale Model of HMS Ranger
The Spy Who Loved Me 1977
A Fibreglass upper hull and conning tower for HMS Ranger the British submarine captured by the Liperaus. Used by the special effects team to create the great sense of scale for the opening scenes in the pre credit sequence.

The model has been kept in storage and somewhat neglected with overspray's of paint and the loss of the tail fin and front dive planes. Detail is extremely "in depth" with hull markings.

Footnotes

  • John Stears the Oscar® winning special effects artist won great acclaim at this time with such productions as The Spy Who Loved Me, Moonraker and Superman. His training came from working with Gerry Anderson on the classic TV series filmed in supermarionation, Fireball XL5, Supercar, Thunderbirds are Go and Captain Scarlett as well as the live action TV series UFO and Space 1999. Stears and his team made many of the miniatures as well as life size scale models that were used extensively on the Bond films up until his sad passing after Goldeneye.
