The present work is accompanied by a letter from Paul Nash to the present owner's father, dated 20th March 1946, in which the artist refers to Yvonne as 'one of my very few portrait drawings'. Indeed, Nash very rarely drew the human figure, and was more accustomed to depicting trees and their environs, and it is commented that the present work is 'interesting as an application of principles learnt from landscape to the human body'.
