A Neo-Assyrian green serpentine kohl vessel
Circa 9th-7th Centuries B.C.
With an elliptical body, out-turned lip and flat disc rim,the body carved with vertical fluting, a notched horizontal border carved above and below, with two pierced lug handles styled as lion's heads, 21/8in. (5.4cm.) high, section repaired, small chips

    Acquired by Lord Cornwallis from an aunt who travelled in the Middle East between the Wars. Purchased by the present owner from Lord Cornwallis.

    It has been suggested that the lion's head handles are or Aramaean influence.
