FIRST EDITION. The standard bibliographies refer to 12 plates (viz. plates 13-24) and make no reference to an earlier suite of 12 plates. The plates have been washed and the annotations and names of the birds, on separate slips of paper, have been preserved in an envelope at the end of the book. A contemporary manuscript card also inserted states that the notes are by the well-known ornithologist Brian Houghton Hodgson.
