Lot Details
1931 Citroen C6 2,442cc Weymann Saloon
Registration no. GP 1176
Chassis no. 552260
Engine no. 21419
Citroen’s Type C6 was an all-new model launched in September 1928 and the first six-cylinder model from that manufacturer to be offered on the English market. The engine was a smooth, side-valve unit, driving through a three-speed gearbox with 6 volt electrics and had a comfortable top speed of 65mph. Cars for the British market were assembled at Slough and the F series cars announced in September 1930 offered the sporting Magna wire wheels.
This car, fitted with stylish, lightweight Weymann patent fabric saloon coachwork, was built in 1930 and first licenced in June 1931. An old buff log book suggests the car was in regular use in Yorkshire until 1964 when it was laid up. It was acquired by the present owner for restoration in 1991, work completed including a major overhaul of engine, gearbox, chassis and axles, fitting a new clutch and a brake overhaul. The coachwork was stripped and rebuilt with much new timberwork and the fabric replaced with Everflex hooding. New headlining and carpets were fitted and the original upholstery most carefully conserved. Upon completion of this restoration in 1992 the first outing was a 1,700 mile holiday in France, only the dynamo causing a minor problem. A photographic record of the restoration is available for inspection and may be copied by arrangement with the owner.
This rare car, possibly the only similar car surviving, is superbly presented in maroon over black livery, has a most practical luggage trunk at the rear, is to right-hand drive specification, has an opening windscreen, calormeter and two spare wheels for the continental tour. It is offered with old buff log book, copy of period instruction book, Swansea V5 document, expired MoT’s, current licence and MoT valid to August 2005.
