1931 Packard Deluxe Eight 840 Roadster
Coachwork by Packard
Chassis no. 191 299
Engine no. 191 321
Always built to the highest standards, the Packard was unquestionably one of the finest American automobiles of the pre-war era. Right from the moment the first car emerged in November 1899, Packard's innovative engineering and superior build quality attracted the attention of wealthy clients. Custom body styles by master coachbuilders had been a feature of Packards during the 1920s, but by 1931, when the DeLuxe designation was adopted for Packard's range-topping model, most clients favoured the factory’s own offerings and there were just two non-factory body designs left: a Convertible Victoria and Convertible Sedan, both by Dietrich. Apart from two seven-passenger models, all DeLuxe Eights were built on the shorter (140.5") wheelbase chassis and powered by the 384.8cid (6.3-litre), 120bhp engine.

This magnificent DeLuxe 840 Roadster is one of only a tiny handful surviving of the 154 built, and was previously owned in the USA by one Adrian Winchell of Beloit, Wisconsin. The car was professionally restored to entirely original specification in the USA in 1990 and since then has covered circa 4,400 miles. 'National First Prize Winner 1979 AACA' and 'Concours d'Elegance Chopard 2000' (first prize with 96 points) concours awards are recorded by attached plaques. Stylishly finished in a period combination of tangerine with coffee wings, the car boasts tobacco leather upholstery, chromed wheel rims and rear luggage trunk, and is offered with mechanical information reference book, service manual, parts list, roadworthiness certificate and valid Swiss Permis de Circulation.
