Lot Details
1909 Alldays & Onions
Registration no. Y1024
Chassis no. 2846
Engine no. 3424
It is believed that the first owner of this Alldays & Onions 10/12hp tourer was a doctor from Wickwar, Gloucestershire who kept the car until 1918 when it was purchased by one Fred Gothard, also of Wickwar, owner of a public house or brewery. In 1920 the car was bought for £30 by George Cornock, of Hawkesbury Upton, Gloucestershire, on whose death in 1935 it passed to his son Cyril. A baker, Cyril Cornock used the car to deliver bread locally and to the Duke of Beaufort’s estate at Badminton. In 1938 the pinion broke and the Alldays spent the war years off the road. After WW2 the car appears to have changed hands several times (a 1948 receipt for £8 exists) before coming into the possession of John A Lamb, of Bristol circa 1950. Mr Lamb restored the car, rallying it until his death in 1960. The present owner purchased it from his widow in 1961 and has rallied it regularly, picking up numerous awards. While in present ownership the gearbox, rear axle and water pump have been overhauled, and the original top windscreen, side mirror, licence holder and Stepney wheel retrieved from previous owner Cyril Cornock, who had removed them, and re-fitted.
Since the vendor’s move from Bath to Truro in 1968, the Alldays has been kept in a heated garage and well maintained, but been used only sparingly. Last taxed for road use in 1983 and last used in 2003, the vehicle is presented in good running condition. A leaking fuel tank is the only item notified as requiring attention, and a change of ignition system from trembler coil to magneto the only listed deviation from factory specification. Finished in grey with leather-upholstered interior, the car is offered with assorted photographs dating from the 1930s, a number of expired MoT certificates, VCC dating certificates (x2), old-style logbook and Swansea V5.
