Aston Villa double medal 1897,
presented to Athersmith Villa right winger in a season that they emulated the achievement of Preston North End eight years earlier and became the second club to win the double. Villa won the league in 1896 and powered their way to a second successive title in 1897 losing only 4 of their 30 matches. Villa had already secured the title when they travelled to Crystal Palace to meet Everton in the F.A Cup final, where they came from behind winning 3-2 to complete the double in an exciting game.
