Footnotes

  • The panther has been an enduring theme in Cartier’s jewels since the 1940s. Inspired by Jeanne Toussaint, a close companion of Louis Cartier, and created in collaboration with the designer Peter Lemarchand, it complemented the fashion for fur from big cat skins imported from Kenya. The Duke of Windsor commissioned some of the earliest designs.
