Lot Details
A pair of George III caddies,
by Aaron Lestourgeon, London 1773,
of upright square form, engraved with guilloche and flowerhead borders, the cover with flower finial, contained in an early 19th century mahogany and cross-banded caddy of sarcophagus form, with felt interior, on flattened bun feet, weight 28.3oz

Footnotes

  • This shape is a visual pun as the caddies are based on the wooden tea chests in which the tea was imported, and the flower finial is a tea flower.
The idea of having two caddies is to separate the two different types of tea, black and green.
