Footnotes

  • Uffa Fox was active in the racing and designing of sailing canoes in the 1930's. BRYNHILDE is unique in being the only two-man, sliding seat sailing canoe ever built. In 1936 Uffa and his crew sailed her to Cherbourg and cruised the Normandy coast with the intention of reaching Spain, thwarted by the Spanish Civil War. Laid up in France,he was later exhibited at the Paris Exhibition. WISHBONE was a radical design commissioned from Uffa Fox in 1935 by Alan Colman, the Mustard magnate. Built in steel by J S White, she was built to win the Fastnet Race. The original negative for WISHBONE no longer survives.
