An early 18th century walnut longcase clock

the hood with later added elaborate moulded cornice over three quarter columns and a long trunk door of four panels of burr veneer centred by a brass rimmed lenticle, on a cross banded base, the 12 inch square brass dial with good female mask and scroll spandrels, wide Roman and arabic chapter ring with half quarter marks and 'floating' fleur de lys half hour markers, matted centre with ringed winding squares, date aperture and subsidiary seconds, the movement with five knopped and finned pillars and anchor escapement rack striking on a bell 2.22m. high.

  • Joseph Windmills was a very fine maker who worked from Tower Street, London. He was free of the Clockmakers Company in 1671 and was Master of the Clockmakers Company from 1702-1723.
