There are few cars held in such high esteem in vintage circles as the sporting 12/50 Alvis, the most worthy successor to the 11/40 model. It ranks in vintage circles alongside such greats as the Vauxhall 30/98 and the Austin ‘Chummy’ and one cannot be considered a true vintagent until one has sat behind the wheel of a well set-up 12/50. The robust, overhead valve engine lends itself well to tuning and development and in its day enjoyed an enviable reputation in motor sport, a reputation that lives on today where these cars continue to demonstrate their credentials in V.S.C.C. competition.

Arguably the prettiest of all 12/50’s is the Ducksback model, a light two seater with occasional seating for one in the distinctive pointed tail. This car, sold to R Bamber & Co. of Southport, was first registered on 23rd December 1930. Originally a Cross & Ellis, wide-bodied two-seater, it retained that body certainly until the 1960’s when owned by a Lieutenant Col. Hall of Liverpool. In subsequent years it was re-bodied in its present Ducksback form by specialist coachbuilders, Wilkinsons of Derby. Recent work carried out to the car has included replacement of the Marles steering box – an essential safety feature on this model - and the car also has had fitted a new Alvis Register cylinder head. A double capacity oil pump and external oil filter are most sensible modifications.

This car is most attractively presented in traditional green livery with green leather upholstery. The car is equipped with hood, tonneau cover, side screens and opening windscreen, CAV headlamps and Toby torpedo side lamps. The short-style radiator proudly carries the hare mascot. This car is currently taxed and MoT tested to March 2004, comes with a Swansea V5 document and a copy of the Factory Build Sheet which is available for inspection.
