Lot Details
1960 Rolls-Royce Phantom V Limousine Coachwork by Park Ward
Chassis no. 5LAS61
Introduced in 1959, Rolls-Royce's long-wheelbase, Phantom V limousine effectively replaced both the royalty/heads of state-only Phantom IV and the Silver Wraith. Built on a much-modified and strengthened Silver Cloud II chassis enjoying the same 145" wheelbase as the Phantom IV, the new Phantom measured over 6 metres in length and enabled coachbuilders to combine the desirable qualities of spacious interior accommodation with generous boot space and graceful lines. A lower final drive ratio ensured that, while top speed was a little down on that of its stablemates, though still in excess of 100mph, the new Phantom could all but match them for acceleration.
This lefthand-drive Phantom V with Park Ward limousine coachwork has the 6.25-litre V8 engine and four-speed automatic gearbox, while its interior boasts a between-compartments division, six seats (two folding) and built-in cocktail bar. The car has been in the ownership of the main Rolls-Royce dealer in Düsseldorf for the past ten years and been regularly maintained. The odometer displays a total of 72,288 miles. A test drive revealed that the engine pulls well with only slight smoke (possibly caused by worn valve seals) and that some wear is detectable in the steering box. Other than that, the car presents itself very well, with grey leather upholstery to the front compartment and silver-grey velour to the rear. It is offered with German registration papers (KZF-Brief). Should the car remain in the EU, VAT is applicable on the hammer price and will be stated on the invoice individually. No VAT is payable for clients with a EU-Tax ID Number, or upon proof of export.
