    Walter Gay studied as a pupil of Leon Bonnat in Paris and exhibited widely throughout Europe and the US. Gay and his wife entertained many of the French nobility at his near Paris and were also extremely well connected with society in Boston and New York.

    It was through these connections that he became renowned for his lavish interiors of both European and American aristocratic houses.
