The final development of the Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud range came with the announcement of the Silver Cloud III in 1962. The new model employed the 6,230cc V8 engine which had been introduced for the Cloud II for the 1960 season. The power output from the larger V8 engine dramatically improved the Silver Cloud model and the Cloud III featured a raised compression engine and larger carburettors, giving still more power. Four-speed automatic transmission was standard. Adoption of the four-headlamp design was a distinctive feature, the radiator shell was lowered slightly and the passenger accommodation featured separate front seats and more room for the rear seat passengers. Rolls-Royce’s superior standards of engineering build quality and passenger comforts were not compromised in the new model.

This exceptional car was acquired by present owner from Messrs Appleyard Rippon Ltd in 1978, at that time the confirmed mileage being just 21,709 miles. Remaining in this new ownership for the last twenty five years the car has covered only a further 2,500 or so miles, being reserved for high days and holidays and the occasional showing at R-R.E.C. events. During this time no expense has been spared in maintaining the car in its exceptional original condition by Rolls-Royce main dealers. There can be few surviving Silver Cloud IIIs recording such minimal mileage and with just two owners from new.

The car is superbly presented in its original dawn blue over shell grey livery, has grey leather interior and comes with Rolls-Royce tools. It is also offered with the original invoice recording acquisition in November 1978, old style log book confirming two owners from new, a Swansea V5 registration document, current licence and MoT certificate.

The Standard Steel Saloon offers a classic elegance, arguably unrivalled by the bespoke designs of any of the contemporary coachbuilders.
