The success of the Aston Martin V8 survived the changes of ownership and financial upheavals of the 1970s, appearing in a number of variants from 1972 until 1988, the exclusive Volante finally being introduced in response to customers’ demands in June 1978. Arguably the ultimate in soft-top luxury, the newcomer boasted a lined, power-assisted hood, which, when erected, endowed the walnut embellished interior with all the solidity and refinement associated with the saloon. Although its open top aerodynamics with the hood down meant that top speed was not as high as the saloon, at a maximum of 150mph it was still among the world’s fastest convertibles. The return of fuel injection came in 1986, this time in electronic form from Weber in contrast to the earlier Bosch mechanical system. Maximum power, which had dropped over the years, was restored to 305bhp in the last, Series V Aston Martin V8, allowing a flatter bonnet line and also the American market to enjoy the same performance as the European market. Volante chassis production ran from 15,001 to 15,849, a total of just 849 cars. With the new Virage arriving in 1988, after 16 years in production, the V8 and its Volante sister were discontinued, the car offered today therefore being one of the last available.

Supplied new to Aston agents, British Motors, this fine left-hand drive automatic Volante was registered in Monaco in March 1987. This one lady owner car currently registers just 61,000 kms, (38,125 miles) an average of 2382 miles per annum. In Windsor Red with Magnolia leather and matching hood, air conditioning, BBS alloys and Avon Turbospeed 235/70/15 tyres are also fitted. Included is the original bill of sale, complete service history, handbooks, full tool kit and unused spare wheel. Just serviced, a new Swansea V5, road licence to September and MoT until February 2004 accompany this ideal convertible for those continental trips.
