Footnotes

  • Best known for his portraits in oil and crayon, Russell is recorded as having painted a few miniatures, some of which are mentioned by Dr. G. C. Williamson in John Russell, R.A., published in 1894. Whilst it has not been possible to identify the sitter with any certainty, she does bear a resemblance to Russell's portrait in large of Jane Campbell (later wife of Roger Pocklington Esq.).
