The Cricket Match
signed (lower right), inscribed,'It was a warm summer evening, mother thought it would be a good idea if we all had a walk after tea, so Mr Taylor (The Bank Manager) suggested we walked across the fields to Wrea Green, George and I were delighted because, it being Saturday, we had our Saturday Pennies to spend, and we knew a nice old lady who made treacle toffee in her cottage and gave the children a big bag full when they went to spend their Saturday Pennies with her. Much to Mr Taylor's delight there was a cricket match in progress on the green. The only thing mother, George and I also the aunts didn't like were the cows which decided they'd like to see the cricket match also, and the year was 1906.', oil on canvasboard
40.5 x 51 cm. (20 x 16 in.)
