Many consider that Royce’s Phantom II had no equals and indeed contemporary reports waxed eloquent about the model. The Motor reported a maximum speed in top gear of 90mph with a minimum speed in the same gear of 5mph and praised its acceleration. Engineering quality was nothing short of the best. Chassis no. 139TA was ordered in November 1934 and supplied by Pass & Joyce Ltd to its first owner, I Isaacs, in June 1935, at that time furnished with Barker limousine coachwork. When acquired by the present owner that original coachwork had disappeared and a decision was taken to embark upon a major restoration, carefully copying the style of the famous Kenneth Neve Phantom II with Barker Three Position Sedanca Coupé coachwork. It was decided that this car would be completed in fixed Sedanca Coupé style. The mechanical restoration was entrusted to Ristes Motor Co. Ltd. of Nottingham, renowned Rolls-Royce and Bentley specialists. No stone was left unturned and no expense spared in the chassis restoration and complete overhaul of mechanical components. Ristes were to use the completed chassis for display on their stand at the Rolls-Royce Enthusiasts’ Club Annual Rally. The recreation of the Sedanca Coupé coachwork was entrusted to Clanfield Restorations, highly respected specialists in that field. The completed coachwork is presented in midnight blue livery and is superbly executed, the fine detail being completed with luggage carrier, rear-mounted spare wheel, quarter bumpers to the rear and blade front bumper. Great care has been taken in locating and fitting appropriate accessories. Some many tens of thousands of pounds later the restoration is substantially complete but still requires interior trim and the installation of such detailed fittings as the expertly crafted vanity units. Completion of this work will be richly rewarded.
This wonderful project comes with a comprehensive file recording restoration to date, together with copies of the original Factory Build Sheets.
