Lot Details
1968 Ford Mustang GTA Convertible
Registration no. WGU 85F
Chassis no. 8R03C122910
Ford created a new class of car almost overnight with the introduction of the Mustang sports coupe part way through the 1964 season. Aimed at the affluent young, for whom a car was as much a lifestyle statement as means of transport, the Mustang succeeded brilliantly, achieving sales in excess of a quarter million by the end of '64. A 170 cubic-inch, 101bhp six was standard equipment at first, but the majority of customers specified one of the optional V8s.

Imported into the UK in 1989, this 4.7-litre, V8-engined Mustang Convertible is finished in Pacific Blue metallic with matching interior and boasts Magnum 500 wheels, power-assisted steering, power brakes and Cruise-O-Matic transmission. The car's VIN code confirms its specification - body style, paint, trim, transmission, etc - to be entirely correct. First UK owner Richard Ward undertook much restoration work during 1989-91, included parts bills for which total some £3,000. In 1995 the car passed to next owner Simon Simonowski, with further work undertaken during his ownership to February 1998 when it was sold to Stefan Fugl. Mr Fugl replaced the hood, bumpers, fuel pump, silencers, water pump, etc, and had the automatic transmission overhauled in May 2001. Receipts for this period total c.£1,500. In 2002 the car entered the Alan Carrington 'stable' in Kent where much further work was carried out: new front bumper, master cylinder, front road springs, brake caliper repairs and new 'slim band' whitewall tyres being fitted. Relevant invoices total £1,585. A genuine '68 Convertible described by the owner as looking and driving well, the car is offered with full history file including old tax discs, copies of MoTs back to 1992 and numerous receipts/invoices. It possesses a current road fund licence (expires May 2003) MoT to July 2003 and Swansea V5 registration document.
